At Light Forager, we believe healthier communities begin with healthier soil, and that materials commonly treated as waste can become valuable resources. Through black soldier fly larvae bio digestion, we are developing a circular model that diverts organic waste from disposal, recovers valuable nutrients, and returns them to the food system.

Help Build Light Forager’s First Black Soldier Fly Production Box

Help Light Forager build its first black soldier fly production box, a Houston pilot that will turn food scraps into useful resources, support healthier soil, and give our community a hands-on place to test circular food-waste systems. Dried larvae from the box can be used as an animal feed supplement, reducing reliance on fishmeal from wild fisheries and supporting gut health and immune function in chickens, fish, and dogs.

Donations will help pay for:

  • The production box and essential components
  • Safe site preparation and installation
  • Collection, monitoring, sanitation, and recordkeeping supplies
  • Starter larvae or colony-establishment costs, if needed
  • Educational materials, maintenance, and early testing

We will build carefully, measure what happens, and share what we learn in plain language.
